Maybe you’re moving to your new home, your daily runaround car just is not enough for a planned trip, or you fancy giving a motorhome holiday a go without the commitment of buying one.

Whatever the reason you have decided to hire a car, van or motorhome from us it will probably be to save you time, money and a lot of hassle. Here’s what you will need to hire a car, van or motorhome from Rising Brook Car and Van Hire.

What do I need to hire a vehicle from Rising Brook?

We have a wide range of cars to suit your needs. MPVs, Minibuses and commercial vehicles are all available from us at very competitive rates. They can be hired for daily, weekly, monthly or even longer-term use. The process of hiring a vehicle is straightforward, but there is a lot of information to take on board, and you probably have a lot of questions. Let us break it down for you.

How old do I have to be to hire a vehicle?

All drivers must be aged between 21 and 75. Added restrictions may apply if you are under 25 or over 65 but this depends on individual circumstances.

What type of driver’s licence do I need?

All drivers must provide a valid driver’s licence and photo ID. You must have this available for Rising Brook Car and Van Hire at the point of hire.

Rental Car Licence

For all non-European licences, an international driving permit and passport are required. If the licence is written in a different language to that of the renting country a utility bill less than 2 months old must also be presented. We might need to make additional checks in some cases.

Please note: Rising Brook Car and Van Hire reserve the right to request additional IDs or conduct further identification checks if they need to. This can include an identity check with external partners who may check details supplied against databases to which they have access.

Will I need any additional driving qualifications?

You don’t need any additional driving qualifications or licence categories to qualify for driving a van that weighs up to 3,500kg. All you need is a full, standard UK car driving licence.

Do I need to provide details of previous accidents or convictions?

Having previous accidents or convictions does not automatically mean you will be unable to hire a vehicle, you must however provide all details to Rising Brook Car and Van Hire of any driving licence endorsements and history of any motor vehicle accidents or convictions prior to confirmation of a vehicle rental reservation.

Rental Car Hand Shake

Rising Brook will decline to provide rental services to customers who are unable to provide the required documentation on a collection of a hired vehicle or fail to declare details of driving convictions, previous motor vehicle accidents or convictions before booking. Under these circumstances, no refund shall be made.

Will I need to pay a deposit?

Not usually but you may be required to make a deposit. Prices, deposits, excesses and conditions are subject to vary depending on the vehicle you have selected, the age and driving record of the driver and whether or not the hirer holds a current credit card. A refundable deposit may be required on commencement of hire. This is subject to the age and status of the driver, vehicle type, payment method and use of the vehicle.

What if I want to cancel?

If you want to cancel you must notify Rising Brook Car and Van Hire in writing within 24 hours of making the booking to receive a full refund. This is subject to certain exceptions

If you make a cancellation of a rental more than 24 hours before the rental is due to commence but with less than 7 days notice you will receive a refund of 50% of the rental value, less an administration charge of £20.

A refund will not be given if your booking is cancelled within 24 hours of the time that the rental is due to commence. If you choose a particular vehicle in high demand and hire during peak season or during public holidays, some rentals will not qualify for a refund on cancellation at all. Your agent will highlight this to you when confirming your booking.

What about fuel?

It is your responsibility as the hirer to maintain an adequate fuel level throughout the duration of the rental.

Rental Car Petrol

If a hired vehicle breaks down due to a lack of or incorrect fuel the cost of recovery or repair services required will be charged to the hirer in full together with continuing rental charges for any off-road period. These costs and charges, fall outside of any deposit or excess applied to the hire agreement and are not covered by the insurance supplied by Rising Brook Car and Van Hire.

Your hired vehicle must be returned with the same level of fuel at the end of your rental period as you were supplied with at the beginning of your hire. If a vehicle is returned with less fuel than it was supplied with, a refuelling charge will be applied to the customer.
